7 Healthy Grain-Free Breakfasts

Updated: Nov 26, 2023

We all know how scary going grain-free can seem, especially when it comes to breakfast. A lot of people enjoy the convenience of a quick bowl of cereal in the morning to fuel their bodies, but let's be honest, that long list of ingredients does nothing but wreak havoc on your gut. Cereals are full of flour, corn, artificial colours and flavourings and refined sugars and most of the ingredients are probably genetically modified too! So we say ditch the cereals and instead start treating your body to delicious, nutrient dense, gut friendly recipes for breakfast instead and so here is a pick of some of our absolute favourites!

Porridge was one of my favourite go to breakfasts in the morning as it's quick, easy and you can have it with a wide variety of toppings. However, oats are a grain and after a lot of research we really don't think they're any good for you as they're full of harmful pesticides and chemicals such as glyphosate. So we've created this delicious grain-free alternative and it'll definitely satisfy any porridge cravings you might be having! It's made using 100 % natural ingredients, it can be vegan and like regular porridge, can easily accommodate various tasty toppings. So if you'd like to, why not give it a try?

This healthy and nutritious recipe is perfect for a hot summer's morning. Cream, yoghurt, chia seeds, strawberries, what's not to love? This recipe can easily be tinkered with to suit your needs, such as to be vegan. Pair it with any fruits or berries you'd like, such as mangoes, kiwi or raspberries and we also like to sprinkle some flaked almonds over the top. This recipe is sure to power your body through the morning as it's full of omega-3 fatty acids, good bacteria for your gut and mood boosting vitamins and minerals. We love this treat for breakfast and better yet, you make it up the night before, meaning you'll be wasting no time wondering what to eat.

I love having a wrap in the morning and this grain-free and keto-friendly egg wrap gets the job done perfectly. It is so customisable and we opted for Mexican inspired fillings such as mango, tomato and avocado. You can have it though with really anything you'd like, maybe some mushrooms or meats like ham and bacon, or veg like courgettes, cucumbers and more. Besides as an egg wrap, it

also works well as a taco shell, where it pairs perfectly with pork mince and our delicious Avocado & Lime Crema. If you fancy switching things up, be sure to try our Italian Garden Omelette too. Whichever way you choose to have it, it's guaranteed to be delicious, so try experimenting with different fillings and find out what you like the most.

If you're in the mood for something a bit sweeter in the morning, then this super moist, fluffy, nutty banana bread is a perfect healthier solution. It tastes amazing and is made even better with the addition of a chocolate button in the centre of each slice. If possible, it would be better if you use dark chocolate buttons as they're less likely to contain suspicious, unhealthy ingredients (and dark chocolate is also packed full of beneficial vitamins and antioxidants). No refined sugars are needed for this recipe as it is naturally sweetened by the bananas that caramelise as they bake and honey, which is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and more. This banana bread is a must for the mornings and it can also be made up the night before. If you'd like some more savoury banana bread, don't worry, we've got those too, just look for them in the search bar above.

Ok, so maybe you need something that's a bit more snack-sized that you can eat on the go, well that's where these come in. These Blueberry Burst Bars are so refreshing, so simple to make and everyone will love them. Obviously we used blueberries in ours, but you could use any other berry or fruit that you'd like. The base is made up of walnuts, dates, dessicated coconut and coconut oil, making it 100% grain free. We make them up the night before, then in the morning they're ready to slice, but you need to eat them quickly or they'll melt. This yoghurt bark will do all sorts of wonders for your body as blueberries are said to help alleviate gastrointestinal issues and UTIs and they also contain one of the highest amounts of antioxidants out of any commonly consumed fruit. You've also got healthy probiotics from the yoghurt and the walnuts in the base are proven to improve cognitive function and promote overall brain health. So if you're looking for a quick and healthy breakfast, these Healthy Frozen Yoghurt Blueberry Burst Bars will get the job done.

Fried or scrambled eggs can get a little boring after a while, so just like our Mexican Breakfast Egg Wrap, here is another fun variation of eggs that isn't so basic. These little Cupcake Frittatas are perfect for breakfast, but also lunches and picnics. We like to have mushrooms baked into them, but some other delicious combinations include bacon and leek, chicken and mushroom and courgette and onion. We love how cheesy they are and they're so simple to make! You could also just make up a large batch of them and snack on them throughout the day. Besides being delicious, eggs are also a superfood and just 2 eggs contain 82% of your daily vitamin D requirements and 40% of your daily selenium requirements, along with a plethora of other vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. So if you're wanting an easy, nutrient dense breakfast, then these little Cupcake Frittatas are the way to go.

Smoothie bowls are one of the healthiest breakfasts you could have and also one of the most delicious. This Apple & Blackberry Smoothie Bowl is bursting with colour and fruity flavours and can easily accommodate a wide variety of toppings. We enjoy having it with apple slices, chia seeds, cacau nibs, flaked almonds and more. Smoothies are also good to make if you're in a bit of a rush in the morning as they can be ready in just a couple of minutes. Additionally, you can also freeze them to make ice lollies. This smoothie is full of super healthy ingredients like apples, which have been proven to bind to heavy metals and other toxins in your body and clear them out and blackberries are full of antioxidants, making this a perfect detox breakfast.

So, maybe you thought that making delicious grain-free breakfasts would be difficult or take too long, but hopefully you now realise that they can be quick, easy and are far healthier for you than cereal.
