Cheesy Garlic & Rosemary Tear & Share Bread

Updated: Apr 1

Making your own garlic bread just as good as the shop-bought stuff may seem a little daunting, but don't worry, it's not. It's simply just a case of making up your dough, spreading your garlic sauce over it, topping with your favourite herbs & cheese and finally baking it. And trust me - it's so much better.

If you really are in a hurry though you could always buy a ready-made baguette or some other kind of bread and simply spread the garlic sauce & toppings over it and cook.

Tear & Share bread is one of our favourite breads to make and are perfect to place in the centre of the table and let everyone tuck in and dip into some delicious pasta sauce.

We also love how versatile and adaptable they are - simply add any toppings that suit your mood, even if that includes something sweet.

This dough is delightful, super easy and can be used to make many recipes including our, Christmas Tree Cheesy Pull Apart Bread...

If you LOVE garlic bread then we're sure you'll LOVE this recipe...

INGREDIENTS

For the dough

  • 4x cups of plain flour

  • 1x egg

  • 1x tbsp of butter (room temperature)

  • 1x tbsp of caster sugar

  • 1x cup of warm water

  • 1x 10g sachet of fast activating yeast

  • pinch of salt

For the topping

  • approx 250g of your favourite melting cheese (such as a strong cheddar) cut into chunks or you can grate it if you prefer (the amount of cheese is up to you - add more or less to suit your taste)

  • 60g of butter

  • 3x large cloves of garlic (crushed and finely diced)

  • 1x tbsp of dried parsley

  • pinch of salt

  • 3x large sprigs of fresh rosemary (leaves only)

METHOD

For the dough

In a mixing bowl add the water, sugar and yeast and whisk together well.

Leave for 5 minutes until frothy.

Add the flour and salt to the mixture and mix together in a freestanding mixer using a dough hook until combined.

Now add your egg and butter and knead in your freestanding mixer for 5 minutes.

Transfer the dough to a large bowl, cover and place it somewhere warm to rise for an hour (the mixture will double in size).

Preheat the oven to 180 and line a 20x30 cm oven dish with a silicone sheet.

Transfer your dough to your oven dish and spread out using your fingertips. Spread to all of the edges and put to one side, covered with a clean tea-towel.

In a small pan add your butter, garlic and seasoning and fry on a medium heat until the butter has fully melted.

Remove from the heat and put to one side.

Evenly distribute the cheese - We like to push the cheese into the dough.

Pour the melted butter evenly over the top. Be sure to scrape out all of the garlic and seasoning.

Place on the top shelf of the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Serve and enjoy!

We like to serve ours fresh and warm from the oven and we serve it with a simple Marinara sauce to dip it into or have it with our pasta.
