A crumble is a delicious, classic English dessert (although now enjoyed worldwide) and is usually comprised of a layer of various fruits, topped with a mixture of baked flour, sugar and butter and then served alongside custard or ice cream. Our favourite has always been rhubarb crumble, but as you cannot find rhubarb in Brazil, we've resorted to this equally delicious apple and blackberry crumble instead. Anyway without further ado, let's get on with the recipe!

INGREDIENTS
Approx 6 - 8 servings
For the fruit layer
660g of frozen blackberries
2x apples (peeled and diced)
1x heaped tbsp of caster sugar
2x heaped tbsp of almond flour
1x tsp of ground cinnamon
1x tsp of ground nutmeg
For the crumble topping
100g of cold butter
200g of plain flour
1x heaped tbsp of caster sugar
For the topping
2x tbsp of demerara sugar
custard or ice cream (if desired)
METHOD
Preheat the oven to 190C
For the fruit layer
In a large mixing bowl add the fruit, caster sugar, almond flour, cinnamon & nutmeg and mix together with your hands or spoon. Ensure the fruit is evenly coated.
Transfer to your baking dish and put to one side while you make the crumble topping.
In a large mixing bowl add the butter, plain flour & caster sugar and rub together with your finger tips until all the ingredients are combined and you've created your desired crumble topping texture.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over your fruit and then top with a sprinkling of demerara sugar.
Pop it onto the top shelf of the oven and bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until the top is golden and the fruit is bubbling at the edges.
Serve and enjoy.
We serve ours warm from the oven and enjoy it with fresh homemade custard.
An absolute favourite, especially with warm custard. A delicious recipe
