Halloween Marshmallow Oreo Bats

Updated: Apr 21, 2023

These little bats are so cute, perhaps that's the wrong word to use at Halloween. I should be saying spooky or scary bats, but when you see them you'll know what I mean.

I had way too much fun making these Halloween treats, as did the kids. The only hard part about this recipe is the waiting time for the chocolate to set, so you can eat them...

This recipe is simple, fun and of course delicious - I mean what's not to like.

The kids are going to love making them. They make a great Halloween activity for the kids and adults...

A fun and delicious Halloween snack that's perfect to have at home during Halloween movie night or to take to a Spooky Halloween party - everyone will love them...

Happy Cooking!

INGREDIENTS

makes 12

  • 100g of milk or dark chocolate ( we used dark )

  • 12 camp-fire marshmallows ( not the giant ones )

  • 1x pack of oreo biscuits

  • 24x edible googly eyes ( optional. We had none and improvised with cut pieces of marshmallow and dots of melted chocolate for the pupils )

You'll also need toothpicks or small wooden skewers.

METHOD

Line a tray or plate or board with non-stick paper or silicon sheet.

Twist and split the Oreos in half and the either break or cut the halves into halves again - these are the bat wings. Go ahead and place these in pairs on your lined tray. You want the two ends touching one another. Space them out about 1 1/2 inches from one another.

Melt the chocolate on a very low heat - ensure to keep stirring so it doesn't stick or burn. If it goes clumpy just add a small dash of hot water and mix. Transfer to a small bowl.

Pierce the base of the marshmallows with the a toothpick or skewer and dip them one at a time into the melted chocolate until it's fully covered and lay it upon one of the sets of wings.

Add the eyes and repeat until all of your bats are made.

Allow the chocolate to fully set before removing the bats from the tray. Placing them into the fridge will speed up the process.

Serve and enjoy!

We used toothpicks and we pierced them into a large avocado placed inside a bowl to display them. We also stuck them into our Chocolate & Marshmallow Tart for decoration.
