Oat-Free Chocolate Porridge Smoothie

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

Since removing oats from my diet I've often craved and missed porridge in the morning especially when it's a cooler and rainy morning. There's something comforting about the texture of porridge and I thought it was time a try and recreate that texture I've missed so much...

It took a little experimenting with different ingredients, but finally I've created that porridge like texture that I LOVE!

This Oat-Free Porridge is a cross between porridge and a smoothie bowl.

It's quick, simple, healthy and DELICIOUS!

The base of the porridge is made from a delicious ripe avocado - technically though we didn't use a typical avocado with the wrinkly skin.

We used a much bigger avocado with smooth skin. Very common here in Brazil and is known as 'Quintal' (Backyard - in English).

It's called this because it very common to have them growing in your backyard here in Brazil.

They have the same great creamy taste of a regular avocado, however the pulp is more yellow and it's fat content is slightly lower.

Whichever avocado you use it will taste great. Just remember if using the smaller avocado you may have to use 2.

Besides the avocado we used Flaxseed to help achieve the porridge texture and it really did help...

Flaxseed is great at breakfast and is packed full of goodness, such as;

  • High in Omega-3 fatty acids

  • High in fibre

  • Good for digestion

  • Good for hair & skin

  • Loaded with nutrients

We also added a little cacau, which gave me instant 'Chocolate Ready Brek' flashbacks from my childhood...

The dogs were eagerly waiting for some too...

I also like to add my daily serving of Collagen Powder to the mixture, however this is totally optional.

The recipe is also fully adaptable to become vegan - just use a plantbased yoghurt and maplesyrup instead of honey.

Although this is a cold porridge it still tastes AWESOME & we love it, so let's get on with the recipe...

Happy Baking!

Serves 2

  • 1x XL smooth skin Avocados or 2x regular wrinkle skin Avocados

  • 1x cup of Flaxseed

  • 1x cup of Natural thick yoghurt (can use plantbased if needed)

  • 1x heaped tbsp of tahini or almond butter

  • 2x heaped tbsp of cacau powder

  • 2x tbsp of honey or maplesyrup (add as much or as little to suit your taste)

  • 2x tsp of Vanilla extract

  • (Optional) Recommended serving of collagen powder

Toppings - optional

  • Handful of your favourite berries

  • Little extra drizzle of honey

  • Sprinkling of flaked almonds

METHOD

Add all of the ingredients except from the toppings into your blender or jug and blitz with a hand blender until fully combined.

Divide mixture into your serving bowls, add your toppings and Enjoy!

The mixture will be fairly thick like porridge, however if you would like it less thick just add a dash of your favourite milk.
