Top 10 Family Friendly Halloween Movies

Updated: Nov 26, 2023

We absolutely love Halloween, and we just so happen to love a good family movie night too - making Halloween season one of the best times to enjoy a family movie together...

There's so many films we enjoy to watch together at Halloween, and now that my children are all teenagers, we get to watch a larger variety of Halloween films together - usually a lot more scarier 👻

However, when they were younger we still enjoyed loads of family Halloween films together.

We're sharing our 'Top 10' below;

1. Hocus Pocus 1 & 2

We think these are one of our all-time favourite Halloween movies, especially the 1st!

You can't help but love this witchy classic and the songs are sure to, 'put a spell on you' and stick in your head.

Based around the story of the 3 Sanderson sisters, each one a witch and each on the hunt for children to help keep them young & beautiful. Will the children of Salem be able to stop them in time?

2. Monster House

OK, we love this film, however I must say that when my children were really little they used to be terrified of one of the main characters, Mr Nebbercracker.

A really good animated Supernatural Halloween movie, although little ones may find it a bit scary.

3 local children believe that their neighbour's house is a living monster, and means to bring them harm. With Halloween approaching and lots of 'Trick-or-Treaters' soon to be in their neighbourhood, they search for a way to destroy the house, before it harms anyone.

3. The House With A Clock In The Walls

A fairly recent film, released in 2018. This fantasy / drama is a must watch for a family Halloween movie night.

A boy named Lewis goes to live with his strange uncle in a old and very creaky house. The house has a mysterious 'tick tock' noise inside it, and Lewis soon realises that his 'odd uncle' (Jack Black), is magical. Based in a sleepy town, until Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, unleashing a dangerous world or warlocks, witches and curses.

4. Goosebumps

Another Jack Black movie, which my kids loved when it came out. This is a horror / comedy which we're sure you'll enjoy on your next Halloween family movie night.

Famous author R.L Stine, writer of the Goosebumps books, is shocked when monsters from his stories come to life and terrorise his town in Delaware.

5. The Curse Of Bridge Hollow

This comedy family film was released in 2022 on Netflix, and is another fun family movie to watch this Halloween.

A father and daughter must team up and save the town from cursed Halloween decorations that are causing havoc.

6. Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone

No shocker that this one made it to our top 10. There's no denying it, we are HUGE Harry Potter fans, and this is one of our favourites. In our opinion all Harry Potter films are fantastic to watch at Halloween, however this one has the most cosy and Halloweeny vibes.

A magical, witchy must watch during Halloween.

7. Scooby Doo 1 & 2

All of the Scooby Doo films make for a fun watch this Halloween, and are full of mystery and comedy.

The Mystery Inc. team are invited to solve yet another mystery. The team is made up of 4 teenage detectives, including their dog Scooby Doo, and they travel in their van called the Mystery Machine. Expect monsters, zombies, ghosts and other villans.

8. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Some say this is a Christmas film, and others say it's a Halloween film. If we're honest, we can't decide and we watch during both holidays...

This is a Tim Burton classic, filmed in true Tim Burton style. A stop-motion animated dark musical

based in a place called Halloween Town. The towns' favourite, Jack Skellington, stumbles across a place named Christmas Town and is instantly enchanted. So enchanted infact that he decides to kidnapp Santa Claus.

This is definitely one of the familie's favourite to watch.

9. Hotel Transylvania 2

If you enjoyed the 1st film then we're sure you'll enjoy this one just as much.

This computer animated film is filled with monsters, vampires and laughs, making it the perfect movie this Halloween, especially if you have little ones.

Dracula decides to open his hotel doors to humans too, and things seem to be changing for the better; however Dracula is secretly worried that his half-human grandson, Dennis, isn't showing signs of being a vampire. Worried, he decides to put young Dennis through a 'monster-in-training' boot camp.

10. Casper

A family classic to watch this Halloween. A live-action / computer animated supernatural comedy-drama.

Casper the ghost is desperately seeking a friend, however he seems to scare off anyone who moves into his mansion - that is until a therapist and his daughter move in.

So there you have it - our top 10 family friendly Halloween movies.

These are just some of our favourite Halloween movies. We'd love to know what your top family friendly Halloween movies are...

Happy Halloween! 🎃👻✨️
